Put Down

WALT: write a report/narrative.

On the twenty eighth August a twenty one year old sumatran tiger, Cantik had died at Wellington Zoo.

The tiger’s name was Cantik which means beautiful in Indonesia. Cantik came from Burger's zoo in the Netherlands in 1994. Cantik was loved at Wellington Zoo and she had twenty cubs.  There are only about three hundred to four hundred Sumatran tigers in the wild. Tigers in the wild only live for about ten to fifteen years and in the zoo they live to about sixteen to twenty years but Cantik lived over twenty years. Cantik died from  malignant adrenal tumors and severe arthritis.
I think animals should get receive euthanasia. If an animal is very ill they could just put them down and die in peace. I think Wellington zoo now should  get some more Sumatran tigers and make them popular. I did not know the tiger so I would not miss the tiger.

Inspirational Person

My inspirational  person  is James Rolleston. He lives in Waihau Bay, in  Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand. He is a actor. He was the lead actor in the movie,  “Boy.” He is also the poster boy in the  Vodafone advertisement.

James Rolleston lived on a small farm with his grandmother his brother Rocky and some of his cousins. James Rolleston always dreamed about Michael Jackson. James Rolleston acted fantastically in Boy.  Therefore, the movie made the most amount of money of any New Zealand films. Although James Rolleston has much money  he is not a show off. James Rolleston would rather watch war movies like  Black Hawk Dawn and Saving Private Ryan and he would like to act in one of those movies.

James Rolleston does not understand all the fuss that is made about him. James Rolleston was just a school kid. A lot of people stop and ask James Rolleston if they could have a photo. All James Rolleston friends treat him normal. When he goes to the city James Rolleston tries not to look good because some people ask him if he is the boy. When people ask if he is boy James Rolleston gets pretty shy.

James Rolleston has inspired me by been a funny and young  actor in the movie called Boy.

Prevention is better than Cure

WALT: respond to the presentation given by the Public Health Dept.

This morning Glen Innes School had to meet in the hall for a special assembly. Most students were excited to see the the Vodafone Warriors.

Dr Alison was talking about how to take care of a sore throat. She did a demo with the puppet Freddy the Frog on how to swab your sore throat. Nurse Kirsty also did a demo on one of the Vodafone Warriors player. Sione a Warrior player, was too shy to get his throat  checked so Ben Henry and Sam Rapira told the Glen Innes children to say” ah” on the count of three.

When Dr Alison finished she told the ex Warrior Awen Guttenbeil to come up and tell his experiences with rheumatic fever. When he was little Awen Guttenbeil did not tell anyone that he had a sore throat, not even his parents. He told the Glen Innes children how he was trying to be the tough guy and not tell anybody that he had a sore throat. Awen told us children how his joints were sore and that he could not walk. Eventually he was diagnosed with rheumatic fever.

The message is that if you have a sore throat tell your parents or caregivers.

Fraction Game

In this game you had to count how many square cookies there are and write that as a fraction of the total number of cookies. Sometimes you could get an equivalent fraction answer like two quarters is equally to one half. This game was a bit easy because most questions were easy and somewhere a bit tricky. I only got three questions wrong out of sixty five questions. I think our teacher should give us some more games like this.

Mum stepped.....

Mum stepped.....

WALT: use better words.

Mum stepped out of the limo and walked onto the bright red carpet. Mum was so famous that the paparazzi were taking photos of her.

When mum was walking along the red carpet her high heel shoe broke. Mum ran back into the limo and  speeded back home to get  a new pair of high heels.  Fortunately, Mum had many pairs of shoes. Mum felt very embarrassed when her high heels broke. She raced inside when she got home. When mum got inside the children were at  the table drawing and dad was watching a game of rugby on TV. Then  she was hunting for some of her high heels in her closet. Finally, she found a  pair to match her outfit.  Back she leaped into the limo.

The driver whizzed  mum  back to the red carpet. The new high heels were perfect for a walk down the red carpet. While  she was walking down the red carpet she wore a brilliant smile and looked elegant in her outfit.  When mum was at the end of the red carpet she was interviewed by Three news. Mum was on tv and luckily her high heels did not break on her this time. All the time the cameras flashed.  After that mum went back in the limo and went back home. When mum got home her children said, “Mum, we recognized you on tv and saw you getting interviewed by three news.”

Mum flashed her tv smile and headed straight to dad. She showed Dad the award she received for being an inspirational mum.
