Food and Culture

Walt:write a report.

Food is very important to people so they can survive.

Taro came from Hawaii and grows in the Pacific Islands. The climate  needed for taro  is hot, humid, and  heavy rain. Taro grows in paddy fields and in abundance.  The soil has to be marshy and wet. Taro can grow anywhere like on  a mountain and close to the sea. Taro has more carbohydrates than potatoes. Taro is a staple diet to the Pacific Islanders. Taro is also good for babies.

Kumara came from Central South America. Kumara was a staple diet for the early Maori. Kumara has more carbohydrates than potatoes. Kumara grows in the North Island  of New Zealand. Kumara grew prolifically in New Zealand because of the temperate climate. For kumara the soil has to dry and fertile. Kumara is very good for babies.

I think that food is so important to people so they can survive. There are many  different foods because people have moved around.

Survey and Report

WALT:write a report about a survey.

Last month I found out the kids and teachers favourite All Black player at Glen Innes School. I went around the school and asked the children and teacher.Fifty
children and some teachers were surveyed.

I used excel to draw my 3D graph. My data was represented in a column graph.

I surmised that Dan Carter is the most favourite All Black player. Sonny Bill Williams came 2th and Ma'a Nonu came
3th with the least liked being John Kirwan. I think that John Kirwan was the least liked because most of the children don’t know him. Maybe he will be known because he will be the Blues coach next year. I think that Dan Carter got the most votes because he is a very good kicker.I think that most people like him because he is so fast.

Weird and Wacky Food Festivals

WALT write a summary.

There are many kinds of weird and wacky food festivals.
Spain has the World's Weirdest Food Festival.

In Bunol Spain people have a crazy Tomato Food Festival.
A man climbs up a pole and then gets the ham and he can
jump into all the tomato piles. It happens in the last Wednesday in
August each year. They did this festival because they weren't happy
with the city council so they throw tomatoes at them. They must squish the tomatoes before throwing the tomatoes. The Tomato Festival lasts for about one week. When they have the festival they fill up all the streets with  tomatoes. Some people eat 17 kilograms of tomatoes.

Mexico has  a Radish Festival. The Spanish
started  this festival. They make sculptures with radishes.
This has being going for hundreds of years.
They celebrated this at night. It last for only a few hours because the radish will die out. It happens every year on 23 of December.

I wish that I could make a weird and wacky food festival for
New Zealand.

Technology

WALT: write a narrative.

Technology

Most Mondays our year seven students go to technology at Tamaki College. We all go on a bus to the college.

This term we are doing wood work and it is extremely exciting. In the workshop we have safety rules like close shoes, stools in and no fiddling. The part I don’t like is drawing because I am not very good at it. We have to sketch before we draw. We have to plan before work on the wood. When we are finished our drawing we have to show our teacher, Mr. Grundy for approval. If he says it is good then we can work on our piece of wood. When we are working on our wood we use some tools like a trysquare to make our line straight and a saw is a tool to cut up the wood.

Wood work is fun and now I can use some of the tools I have not used before. I hope that my truck will look alright. When it is finished I will give it to my little cousin.
